Trent Rockets women secure qualification with victory over Birmingham Phoenix

Rockets’ Dominant Performance
The Trent Rockets women’s team has moved to the top of The Hundred table following their fourth consecutive victory against Birmingham Phoenix at Trent Bridge. This win effectively guarantees their advancement to the later stages of the tournament.
Sophia Dunkley was a key player for the Rockets, scoring 65 runs off 37 balls. This marks her third consecutive fifty and further extends her lead in the run-scoring charts. Her performance was instrumental in helping the Rockets chase down a target of 123 runs with 16 balls remaining.
Despite losing Nat Sciver-Brunt for 24 runs and Ash Gardner in quick succession, the Rockets maintained their momentum. Earlier in the match, Davina Perrin, aged 19, started strongly for Phoenix with 18 runs off 13 balls, but her dismissal by Kim Garth (4-23) highlighted Birmingham’s batting struggles.
Alice Capsey’s challenging tournament continued as she was bowled for one run by Charley Phillips (1-22). Ellyse Perry also departed for the same score after a combination from her Australian teammates, Gardner (1-30) and Beth Mooney. The Phoenix found themselves at 55 runs for four wickets after Tammy Beaumont (24 runs off 21 balls) was run out by Dunkley.
Contributions from Emma Lamb (45 runs off 34 balls) and Annerie Dercksen (21 runs off 16 balls) helped Phoenix reach a total of 122 runs. However, this score proved insufficient against the Rockets’ batting lineup, particularly with Dunkley’s form. This third defeat in five matches significantly impacts Phoenix’s chances of reaching the knockout stages.
Welsh Fire Boost Qualification Hopes
In another match, Welsh Fire enhanced their qualification prospects with a three-wicket victory over Manchester Super Giants. This win came after a strong bowling display at Emirates Old Trafford, where Fire’s attack limited the Super Giants to just 85 runs for nine wickets. Of these runs, 14 were scored in the final six balls of their innings.
Orla Prendergast of Ireland, who replaced Sophie Devine, delivered an impressive performance for Fire, taking 4-18, which are the best bowling figures in the women’s competition this year. Despite the low target, Fire faced some difficulties in their chase, losing seven wickets before securing the win with nine balls to spare.
England spinner Sophie Ecclestone’s figures of 3-14 for Manchester were not enough to turn the tide in her team’s favour. The result elevates Welsh Fire to 12 points, placing them in fourth position, one spot and two points behind their opponents in the table, with two games remaining.
Southern Brave and Trent Rockets are nearly guaranteed the top two spots in the table, securing their places in the knockout stages. This leaves only one remaining spot for the women’s eliminator.
Upcoming Fixtures
Following Wednesday’s four matches, Thursday will feature a single double-header event. The London Spirit women’s team is scheduled to host MI London from 3pm, followed by the men’s teams competing from 6.30pm. Both of these fixtures will be broadcast live.

The Trent Rockets Women have been aiming for their first title after not winning any championships in the initial five seasons. Their improved performance in the current Hundred Women’s 2026 season has seen them reach the second position on the ladder with 16 points, putting them in a strong position for the next round. The match between Trent Rockets Women and Birmingham Phoenix Women, which was match number 22, was held at 7:30 PM IST on Wednesday at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
