Pratika Rawal joins Warwickshire for remainder of 2026 season

Pratika Rawal signs with Warwickshire Bears

India opener Pratika Rawal signs with Warwickshire

Pratika Rawal, the India batter, has joined Warwickshire Women for the rest of the 2026 domestic season. The 25-year-old is expected to bolster the county side’s batting lineup in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup. Her availability for selection begins with Warwickshire’s next One-Day Cup fixture on August 19, as the Bears aim for a spot in the tournament’s eliminators.

This move marks Rawal’s return to competitive cricket following a knee injury. The injury had previously sidelined her from India’s one-off Test match against England at Lord’s. She sustained the injury during an India A match in Taunton on July 1, which necessitated stitches and prevented her from participating in the significant Test.

Warwickshire currently holds fifth place in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup standings. The team’s objective is to secure a top-three finish to qualify for the knockout stage of the competition. The club anticipates that Rawal’s arrival will provide additional batting strength at the top of the order during the crucial closing stages of the tournament.

Club and player express enthusiasm

The club has expressed its enthusiasm for welcoming the India opener, stating that her inclusion will strengthen the squad as they strive for a strong finish to the season. A club statement highlighted the significance of the signing, noting that Rawal’s calibre would enhance the team’s prospects.

“It’s a great signing for the team, and we are most pleased to be able to welcome Pratika to Edgbaston. Our position in the One Day Cup table at the moment is a good one, and bringing in a player of Pratika’s calibre can only serve to strengthen our team as we aim to end the season on a positive note,” the club said in a statement.

Rawal herself conveyed her eagerness to experience county cricket and looks forward to representing Warwickshire at Edgbaston, which she described as an iconic venue in world cricket. She mentioned hearing positive feedback about the club and is keen to contribute to the team’s success.

Ali Maiden, the head coach, described Rawal’s signing as “fantastic.” He further commented that her addition would “only strengthen our line-up as we look to finish the season on a positive note.”

Rawal’s international career highlights

Pratika Rawal has rapidly emerged as a prominent batting talent for India since her international debut in December 2024. She holds a notable record as the fastest woman to achieve 500 ODI runs, reaching this milestone in just eight innings. Her performance in One-Day Internationals includes an average of more than 47, with two centuries and eight half-centuries from 26 innings.

The opener played a significant role in India’s successful Women’s ODI World Cup campaign in 2025. During this tournament, she scored 308 runs, which included a century against New Zealand, contributing to the team lifting the title. She was part of the India squad that won the World Cup in 2025 but missed the final victory over South Africa due to injury.

Rawal also made her Test debut in March against Australia in Perth, where she scored 63 runs in India’s second innings. Her first appearance for Warwickshire is scheduled for when the One-Day Cup resumes on August 19.
